Design Process

Four Rounds to the Right Door on a Plymouth Craftsman

One recent Plymouth project started with two goals: significantly upgrade the front of the home, and turn the garage into a space the family could actually use through winter. The exterior wasn't going to make the first goal simple. Stacked stone at the base, sage-toned board-and-batten above, a warm olive lap siding below that, and cream trim tying it all together — four materials in play, with warm and cool tones sitting right next to each other across a three-bay opening that's one of the most visible elements on the house.

There was no single obvious color. We started by reading the architecture and the palette the way we do on every job, then walked the homeowner through the real candidates against photos of their actual house: a cream to match the trim exactly, a warm greige pulled from the stone, and a medium walnut woodgrain. It took working through all three before the walnut won — not because it matched any one material, but because it pulled the warm tone out of the stone without fighting the sage or the olive siding next to it. The result is a set of carriage-style doors with insulated glass inserts that read as though they were designed with the house, not dropped on afterward.

Minnesota Building Code

Every door we install in Plymouth is wind load rated.

Minnesota's building code doesn't care whether Plymouth requires a permit for your specific project — ANSI/DASMA 108 wind load certification is the statewide baseline either way. It's structural protection first, and it keeps your insurance coverage intact if a storm ever puts it to the test.

Plymouth FAQ

Common Questions from Plymouth Homeowners

How much does garage door repair cost in Plymouth?
It depends on what actually failed — a spring, a cable, and an opener repair are each priced differently, and we publish those standard rates on our website so you're not waiting on a callback just to get a number.
Do you offer same-day garage door repair in Plymouth?
When the schedule allows, yes — a door that's stuck open or closed jumps the queue. Text a photo and your address to (952) 314-2468 and we'll give you a straight answer on timing.
Does my new garage door need to meet Minnesota's wind load code?
Yes, statewide, regardless of whether Plymouth pulls a permit for the specific job. ANSI/DASMA 108 certification is standard on every door we install, not an add-on.
What garage door brands does Northview install in Plymouth?
Haas and CHI for doors, Sommer and LiftMaster for openers. On homes with a more complex exterior — multiple siding materials, stone, warm and cool tones in the same facade — we spend real time walking through actual color and finish options against your house before you commit, rather than guessing off a paint chip. See the note above on how that played out on a recent Plymouth project.
